Yang Lu Chan Applications

Tai Chi Chuan offers a "library" of movements that can be used for various self defense purposes. In general, practitioners know that each posture can be applied for strikes (dim mak -- vital point strikes), joint locks (chin na) and take downs (shuai jiao). In this video, Sifu Gee shows some dim mak type strikes that are found in the postures found at the beginning of the Yang Lu Chan Tai Chi form.

Gary Gee was a student of Grandmaster Wong Ark Yuey
(i.e. Ark Y. Wong) and Grandmaster Ralph Shun.

Tai Chi Tuishou - Less is More

The biomechanics of tai chi tuishou (pushing hands) may seem like magic or trickery. But it is based on Newtonian mechanics. Few people get the hang of it, however. One of the reasons is the attachment that people have to tension, pressure, and their need for proprioceptive feedback. Effortless is not the goal, it is the method.
