Benefits of Tai Chi and Levels of Practice
Tai chi is far beyond mastering proper physical body alignment. It also teaches how to let go, and how to focus our intention and energy at the right times. Being able to truly rest when needed, and fully focus at the right times, energy is utilized more effectively and efficiently.
Taichi has a medical as well as a martial arts aspect. In the medical aspect, when used to improve energy or manage pain, consistent practice is required. With analogy to heating up water, consistency is required for the water to boil. Even if you started in a poor health condition, with short practice times each day, consistency will bring results. The water will boil eventually. Consistency is the key to practice.
At the martial arts level, precision and integration requirements are higher. Increased practice hours are needed. Beyond the practice of physical skills and techniques, understanding of how the heart harmonizes with the intension, how the intention harmonizes with the Qi, and how the Qi harmonizes with the jing (the power you exert) is needed.
